On September 24, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the Gary Police Department was dispatched to 2544 Connecticut Street, Gary, Lake County, Indiana, in response to a Domestic Battery call involving a 24-year-old male and a 57-year-old male, both residents of Gary.

When officers arrived at the location, the 24-year-old male exited the residence and engaged the officers while armed with a firearm. This prompted the officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in the male sustaining injuries.

Following the incident, the 24-year-old male was immediately transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The 57-year-old male was also transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital due to physical injuries sustained while being battered by the 24-year-old male.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has been assigned to investigate the incident. The Gary Police Officers involved were unharmed and will be placed on Administrative Leave for the duration of the investigation.

The Gary Police Department extends sincere condolences to everyone affected by this incident. The Lake County Sherrif’s Department will release further details upon the completion of a thorough investigation.
