Statement from City of Gary Mayor Eddie Melton on Potential Acquisition of US Steel

I am proud to support Vice President Harris’s campaign. I strongly agree with her commitment to preserving middle-class, union jobs in our communities. Additionally, I believe in the critical importance of maintaining robust American industries to safeguard our national defense.

Although the decision on the pending acquisition will be made at the federal level, any and every decision that will be made will have a local impact on the City of Gary. I believe that our community deserves to be prioritized and protected from further economic and environmental harm. As Mayor, I will continue to advocate for our community to ensure our citizens are not overlooked or further burdened by the impacts of historical divestment.
