GARY, IN – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Gary and northwest Indiana from noon today through 7 PM Monday, with heat index values exceeding 100°F.
These conditions are especially dangerous for children, elderly residents, and those without proper cooling.
The City of Gary has opened its cooling center to the public. The center is free and offers air conditioning, restrooms, and a safe place to cool down.

The center will continue to open during the summer whenever the temperature or heat index rises above 89°F.
