First Lady Crystal Melton Honored at Delta Days Event at Gary City Hall

Gary, IND - On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the annual Delta Days event was held at Gary City Hall in honor of Black History Month. The event, hosted by the Gary Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, celebrated the achievements and contributions of influential community leaders and honored them for their dedication and service.

Crystal Melton, one of the honorees and the First Lady of the City of Gary, graciously accepted her award and spoke passionately about the importance of service during Black History Month. "We are here to be good stewards of what God has given us. Whether we give our time, our resources, or our efforts, everything we do must glorify God and uplift the community. It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve our people."

This year's Black History Month honorees also included Nia Spiller, First Officer at Republic Airlines and Mary Brown, 3rd District Councilwoman, Gary Common Council.

Mayor Melton offered his congratulations to all three honorees and answered questions from concerned attendees on a variety of issues, including public safety, infrastructure, and economic development. Other elected officials present included Linda Barnes Caldwell and Kenneth Whisenton from the Common Council, who showed their support for the event and the honorees.

The City of Gary thanks the Gary Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for their significant contributions to the Gary community to city and extends sincere congratulates this year's Black History Month honorees.
