Traffic Alert: Upcoming Road Closures and Traffic Changes in Downtown Gary

The City of Gary is notifying residents, businesses, and motorists of upcoming traffic changes as work continues to clear the way for Gary’s future redevelopment and growth initiatives. Beginning Monday, October 5, the following traffic control measures will be implemented:

• Washington Street: Full closure between 5th Avenue and Broadway
• Genesis Center Plaza: Full closure between Washington Street and W. 4th Avenue
• Adams Street: Traffic will shift between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the western half of Adams Street.
• Public Parking: The public parking lot at the northwest corner of Broadway and 5th Avenue will be closed.‍

Additional closures will be implemented on Thursday, October 8th.

• ‍NB Broadway / SR 53: Right lane closure with traffic shift from south of 9^th Ave. to north of 8^th Ave.
• SB Broadway / SR 53: Left lane closure with traffic shift from north of 8^th Ave. to south of 9^th Ave.
• EB/WB 8^th Ave.:  Full closure between Massachusetts St. and Broadway / SR 53
• Massachusetts St.:  Left shoulder/parking lane closure from 9^th Ave. to 8^th Ave.
• Detours for the 8^th Ave. closure and associated sidewalk closures will be in place.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use caution when traveling through the area. Please follow posted signage and traffic control measures throughout the duration of the project.
