Steve Segura Appointed Chief Communications Officer for the City of Gary

GARY, IN – Mayor Eddie Melton has selected seasoned communications professional, Steve Segura, to serve as the new Chief Communications Officer for the City of Gary. Segura, who has a long and distinguished career in Northwest Indiana, assumed his new role on September 8, 2025.

Segura brings a wealth of experience to the position, with a notable history of public service in the region. Most recently, he served as the Multimedia Director for the City of East Chicago, where he played a key role in shaping public messaging, managing media relations, overseeing the city’s government channel (ECTV), special events coordination and promoting community initiatives. His work in East Chicago is widely recognized for its effectiveness in marketing, building transparency and fostering a positive relationship between the city government and its residents.

"Having worked in Northwest Indiana for 35 years, I have a deep appreciation for the region's history, its people, and its immense potential. I have fond memories of growing up near the Gary Career Center, and I’m looking forward to making Gary my new home. I am excited about all of the things the city has on the horizon and its bright future. I look forward to using my experience to help share the incredible story of progress and revitalization happening here and to ensure that the residents of Gary are well-informed and engaged."
