
GARY, IND. – August 19, 2026 – Mayor Eddie Melton announced today that the City of Gary has received a generous $100,000 donation from hometown NBA legend Glenn Robinson to support residents impacted by the August 11th storm crisis.
The storm relief funds will provide direct assistance to affected residents of Gary. These resources will be used to distribute critical items, including food and hydration, health and personal hygiene items, and cleaning and debris-removal supplies.
"The August 11th storm hit our city hard, but the resilience of Gary is always stronger. We are incredibly grateful to Glenn ‘Big Dog’ Robinson for answering the call,” said Mayor Eddie Melton. “This $100,000 goes straight to work right now. We are putting food, clothing, and cleaning supplies directly into the hands of residents who need them most. When our community faces a crisis, we pull together. This generous gift proves exactly that.”
