GARY, IND. — At the request of Mayor Eddie D. Melton, NIPSCO confirmed that an electrical outage near 25th and Chase on Thursday, Sept. 3, at approximately 2:30 p.m. CT, affected roughly 1,700 customers. NIPSCO has not provided the City with information regarding the cause of the outage or the time of full restoration.
NIPSCO crews responded to the outage and completed the necessary repairs to restore electric service.
The City is grateful to the residents who brought this issue to the Mayor’s Office so that we could promptly seek answers and advocate for the restoration of service on their behalf. Mayor Melton will continue advocating for Gary residents and pressing for the priorities outlined in his Recovery Action Plan, including a modernized, more reliable and resilient electric grid and stronger emergency response.
The Mayor remains committed to ensuring that Gary emerges from the August 11 storm stronger and more resilient than before.
Residents are encouraged to review Mayor Melton’s Recovery Action Plan to learn more about the actions and priorities being advanced on behalf of Gary residents.
