Age friendly Advisory council

Age Friendly Council

Our Mission

The Gary Age-Friendly Advisory Council, established by Mayor Eddie D. Melton in March 2025 through Executive Order, is dedicated to creating an inclusive, accessible city where residents of all ages—especially seniors—can thrive with dignity and purpose. We commit to advocating for seniors, amplifying their voices in decision-making, fostering intergenerational connections, and implementing innovative solutions through collaborative partnerships. Our goal is to transform Gary into a community where older adults are respected, engaged, and empowered to live independently and joyfully as valued contributors to our city's vibrant future.

Community Needs Assessment

Help us understand the needs and challenges of our older adults (50+) in Gary to build a more livable community!

We would like to find out about your community and what you’ll need as you get older to make your community a great place to live. Your views are important, and we would greatly appreciate your participation in this survey. This survey is being conducted for research purposes only, and we promise that your name and individual opinions will be kept confidential. This survey will take about 20 minutes to complete.
